Corte Madera is a peaceful community where visitors are treated to the best of all worlds; lush, magnificent open space and superb restaurants and shops. Here you will find several wildlife preserves, such as the 204 acre Ecological Reserve and the Ring Mountain Preserve, where hikers and cyclists enjoy the breathtaking views and wildflowers. Originally, the area was part of the fabulous Corte Madera del Presidio Rancho of Mexico with a lumber mill, the lumber from which was used to build the Presidio in San Francisco. When gold was discovered in California and rail transportation blossomed, people began building summer cottages on the wooded slopes.
Today, Corte Madera is a prestigious bedroom community, reflecting the easy outdoor lifestyle associated with the open spaces of California. Water sports, hiking, biking and picnicking are available in every direction. The Corte Madera Town Center, the Marketplace and The Village all offer fine shops, unique boutiques and friendly restaurants. The typical Marin County blend of city and nature is beautifully illustrated here in the Shorebird Marsh, a natural preserve, found in the middle of the downtown shopping district.
